The Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented, and committed Legal Officer to join our Legal Unit at the National Headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.
This is an excellent opportunity for legal professionals who are passionate about corporate governance, legal compliance, and supporting one of Malaysia’s leading humanitarian organisations. The successful candidate will work closely with the Legal Manager in providing legal, governance, and administrative support across a broad range of organisational matters.
We are looking for an individual who demonstrates sound legal judgement, excellent analytical and legal drafting skills, integrity, and professionalism. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, able to manage multiple priorities, and committed to supporting good governance within a humanitarian organisation.
Key Responsibilities
As a Legal Officer, you will:
- Assist in providing legal advice on constitutional, governance, compliance, and operational matters.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and revise contracts, agreements, Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs), Letters of Award (LOAs), procurement documents, and other legal instruments.
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal opinions, briefing papers, governance reports, memoranda, and policy papers.
- Support the preparation of National Council papers, Governing Board papers, Circular Resolutions, governance reports, and other corporate governance documentation.
- Provide secretariat and administrative support to the National Election Commission, Election Compliance Commission, Board of Inquiry, and other governance committees.
- Assist in handling disciplinary matters, constitutional interpretation, governance issues, and internal legal matters.
- Support legal matters relating to land, property, trustee appointments, leases, tenancy matters, and development agreements.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting the Society and support compliance initiatives, policy implementation, and governance improvements.
- Coordinate with external legal counsel, government authorities, land offices, consultants, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
- Maintain legal records, contracts, confidential documents, and document management systems while ensuring proper record retention and confidentiality.
- Provide legal, governance, and administrative support for organisational projects, strategic initiatives, and special assignments as required.
Requirements
Applicants should possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Law recognised by the Government of Malaysia or other recognised professional legal qualification.
- Preferably 2–5 years of relevant working experience in legal practice, corporate legal affairs, governance, or compliance. Fresh graduates with excellent academic achievements and relevant internship experience are also encouraged to apply.
- Excellent legal drafting, legal research, and analytical skills.
- Good knowledge of contract law, corporate governance, legal compliance, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong understanding of legal documentation, report writing, and policy development.
- Excellent written and spoken English and Bahasa Malaysia.
- Strong analytical, organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritise tasks, and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
